What Tucson is Famous For

Did you know that Tucson is known for some of America’s best Mexican food?  In fact, The Old Pueblo even has a designation of “Best 23 miles of Mexican Food” in a certain area of town.  Tucson proudly boasts being the first American “UNESCO City of Gastronomy”, which highlights its deep authentic food history.

What should you try?  Look for Sonoran Hot Dogs at favorites such as “El Guero Canelo”, Pan Dulce (which is Mexican sweet bread) from perhaps “La Estrella Bakery”, Raspados (which is shaved ice with fruit), or the mole (a complex traditional Mexican sauce) at Amelia’s Mexican Kitchen.  Other local favorites are Carne Asada, Tamales, and Caldo (Soup) de Queso.  A local restaurant for delicious tacos is “Seis”.  Last, the oldest Mexican restaurant in Tucson is “El Charro Cafe”, which was founded in 1922 and said to have invented the chimichanga!
